BATTLE GUIDE
ENGAGING: If you wish to engage another character in battle, you should agree to fight them in some thread. However, if a thread has one of these tags in its title, others are free to enter the thread and fight: [pvp], [battle], [invasion].
DEATH ENABLED: Nope. MHA is not death enabled. No matter how hurt a character is, we will find a way to explain them coming back. That is not to say they won't need some time to recover, but they will be back. The only time a character can truly be killed off is if the person being attacked tells staff that they are allowing their character to be killed off.
SET UP: MHA uses a defensive combat system. Throughout a fight thread, characters should always post in the same order. During a character's post, they are allowed to make an attempt at attacking another character. However, they cannot say that their attack connected with few exceptions. It is in the defending character's post that they decide whether they were hit by an attack or dodged it. Under this system the objective is to try to get the opponent to slip up or back into a corner.
EXCEPTIONS: There are situations where you can automatically say your attack hit its target. If the target is asleep, they cannot defend themself. If they are frozen, they cannot defend themself. If they are in the air without flight or hovering abilities, then they cannot defend themself. And, if they ignore your attack from the last round, or do not do anything to dodge it, then you can say it hit.
EDITING: There should be no editing during a fight thread, unless both sides agree to it. If they both agree to it, then they cannot un-agree to it. If they do not agree to it and someone does edit their post, the fight can continue but if a judgement call must be made, that person will be seen as the loser.
CHARACTER EDITING: If you make revisions to a character that is in a fight thread, those revisions cannot be used in the thread.
WAITING: If a character does not respond to an attack after a week and has no away thread, then they should be skipped and any attacks aimed at them will automatically hit.
ESTABLISHING AN ENVIRONMENT: Ideally during a fight thread both participants should be clear on what skills they are using, where they are standing, what they are doing, where they are moving, etc. They should also be clear about what they see around them. Once something is established, it cannot be unestablished and if the other player has not established something, then you are free to do it yourself.
By this we mean that there is no bucket on the battlefield until someone says there is a bucket. Once someone says in their post that there is a bucket, the bucket will only be removed if one of the characters kicks it away or destroys it. If player one does not say whether there is or is not a bucket during their posts, then player two is free to say whether there is or is not a bucket. If player one does not say where their character is standing, player two can say they are standing near a stop sign. This is one of the most difficult parts of roleplay PVP and if you are unsure whether you can or cannot do something, contact a member of staff.
ALL THAT STUFF: No god modding, power playing or breaking the fourth wall. Don't know what these terms mean? You cannot control other characters (unless you have a mind control ability that was approved). Your character can only know things that they have learned, not things that you have learned. You cannot change established information about the thread without the character doing something to change it.
